Chinchillas

We longer raise Chins due to the

time our livestock requires.

I will leave this page up for

information purposes ONLY

  • Unlike other smaller pets, Chinchillas actually have a lot of
personality, intelligence and can be trained.
  • They enjoy people's company if
    given lots of attention.
  • They love treats and will take them out of your hand and proceed to eat them with their paws - very cute!
  • They have little SMELL, even when kept in small rooms, unlike rabbits and hampsters or mice.

Important Facts YOU must know before owning a Chin:

  • They CANNOT live outside; due to heat intolerance, they will die without air conditioning. They are native to cold climates, and they simply will die if put outside or kept in a warm house - 70 degrees is a comfortable temp they can endure for a long time.
  • They will do okay alone, but they are happier with a companion.
  • They need ledges and higher type cage in climb and jump around in.
  • You cannot breed certain colors together as they have a fatal gene (two whites, for example)
  • They need access to hay, bathing dust, calcium and quality Chinchillas pellets to be healthy
