I am originally from West Virginia, and my husband is originally from
Clearwater, Florida. When we met, he had no idea that he
would eventually end up on a small farm out in the country
in West Virginia, but here we are. I think he enjoys it more
than I do, but we both have the same goals and enjoy how
and where we live a great deal.
We have three young son and hope to allow them to grow up with
traditional values and useful knowledge that so many kids
are not able to acquire these days in this society.
In the midst of greater tragedy than most people could ever fathom,
we have also had some blessings along to way that have allowed
us do what we currently are here, and you can learn more about
this and our farm's name on it's page
HERE.
We started out with a pony and some Pygmy goats at our first house back
in 2007. My husband became interested in Dairy goats, and we purchased
1 Nubian doe, 1 doling and a buckling in the spring of 2008.
I had grown up having horses and riding, and eventually, my husband also
became very interested in Arabians, and when the chance came up to
purchase not only a fantastic Arab mare, but also a SE Arab filly and then an
SE Arab Stallion, we jumped at the chance to raise a breed of horse I'd
only dreamed of having as a child reading "The Black Stallion" series by Walter Farley.
So our herd began, and we have since added more goats of dairy breeding and decided
to raise Miniature Nubians, Kinder goats and Nigerian Dwarf goats, and we were able to
purchase a very nice Jersey calf to raise occasional heifers later on.
We love being able to meet people along this journey, and we are thankful
for the advice and help we've gotten from people who are also living a similar
lifestyle or raising animals like we are.
We would love to talk to you if you're interested in learning from us or
have been doing this longer than we and have anything we might learn
from you!
We hope to learn to make goat and cow cheese, butter and goat soaps and lotions
soon, and I'm glad to have gotten contacted by lots of nice folks locally and further away
that we will be able to learn from!
