Nigerian Dwarf Does

About the Breed:

The Nigerian Dwarf is a miniature dairy goat of West African origin.

They do not require as much space or feed as their larger dairy goat counterparts and their gentle and friendly personalities make them good companion pets. The milk is also higher in butterfat and has a sweeter taste.

Nigerian Dwarfs are considered a recovery breed

by the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy.

A Nigerian Dwarf doe can produce a surprising amount of sweet milk for her small size
- up to two quarts per day or more.

In addition, Nigerian Dwarf milk is higher in butterfat (6-10%) and higher in protein than milk from most dairy goat breeds.

Dwarf goats breed year round. Nigerian Dwarfs are a hearty breed with few kidding problems. Dwarfs does can have several kids at a time, 3 and 4 being common with some quintuplet births occurring.

"Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, and look well to thy herds. For riches are not for ever: and doth the crown endure to every generation? The hay appeareth, and the tender grass sheweth itself, and herbs of the mountains are gathered. The lambs are for thy clothing, and the goats are the price of the field. And thou shalt have goats' milk enough for thy food, for the food of thy household, and for the maintenance for thy maidens."

- Proverbs 27:23-27
